Lowinsky, Edward (E)lias (1908–1985)

German-born US musicologist. He studied in Stuttgart and Heidelberg, and became a US citizen in 1947. He taught at Queens College, New York, 1947–56, Berkeley 1956–61, and at the University of Chicago. He was editor of the series Monuments of Renaissance Music (1964–77). Josquin Desprez, Orlande de Lassus, Adriaan Willaert, and Nicolas Gombert featured prominently in his research.
