Lualaba

Another name for the upper reaches of the Congo River in Africa, as it flows north through the Democratic Republic of Congo from near the Zambian border.

One version meant for tourist consumption, recounted in a recent issue of the Zambian magazine Lusaka Lowdown (August 2002) simply has the brothers and their retinue trying to cross the fast-moving Lualaba River and being swept away by the strong current.
As Allen Roberts suggests, Kola is variously associated with the Lunda heartland, "Angola," and the confluence of the Lualaba and the Luvua Rivers (1986:25, 45 fn 185).
