Lubovitch, Lar (1943- )

US modern-dance choreographer. He founded the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in 1976. He was the first to use minimalist music, for which he created a new style of movement in works like Marimba (1977) and North Star (1978).

He choreographed several Broadway productions, including Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods (1987), the Dance of the Seven Veils for Salome (1992), and The Red Shoes (1993), based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson. He was also a pioneer of ice dancing.
