Lucas, Leighton (1903–1982)

English composer and conductor. He studied music by himself while working as a dancer and at 19 became a theatre conductor. He served in the RAF during World War II.

ballets Orpheus and The Horses (1946); masques (tragic) The Wolf's Bride and (Japanese) Kanawa, the Incantation; film music for Target for Tonight; Missa pro defunctis for solo voices, chorus and orchestra (1934); Masque of the Sea for chorus and orchestra; Passacaglia, Chaconne and Litany for orchestra; sonnets for piano and orchestra; La Goya, two dance impressions for chamber orchestra; partita for piano and chamber orchestra; Eurhythmy for violin and strings, four divertissements for violin and chamber orchestra; piano trio in F major; songs.
