Lucullus, Lucius Licinius

Lucullus, Lucius Licinius (c. 110–c. 56 BC)

Roman general and consul. As commander against Mithridates of Pontus 74–66 BC he proved to be one of Rome's ablest generals and administrators, until superseded by Pompey. He then retired from politics.

The eastern booty accumulated by Lucullus enabled him to live a life of luxury, and Lucullan feasts became legendary.
