Ludlow, Daniel

Ludlow, Daniel (1750–1814)

US merchant and banker. He learned accounting and banking in Holland (1765–c. 1769) and was a Loyalist during the American Revolution. He then prospered with his general importing business on Wall Street. He was president of the Bank of the Manhattan Company (1799–1808). His importing house declared bankruptcy in 1808 and he retired to Skaneateles, New York. Ludlow was born in New York City.
