Lufkin

City and administrative headquarters of Angelina County, eastern Texas, 193 km/120 mi northeast of Houston, near the Angelina River and Sam Rayburn Reservoir; population (2000) 32,700. It has woodworking, pulp, and newsprint plants, and makes mill and oilfield machinery and trailers. Deposits of oil, natural gas, and clays are important in the area.

Between the Davy Crockett and Angelina national forests, the city has both Federal and Texas forestry facilities. Angelina College (1966) is here.
