Lukens, Rebecca Webb

Lukens, Rebecca Webb (1794–1854)

US businesswoman. She married Dr Charles Lukens in 1813, who then joined her father, Isaac Pennock, in his ironworks firm in Brandywine, Pennsylvania. Following the deaths of both her father in 1824 and her husband in 1825, she took control of the commercial aspects of the iron business (1825–54). She triumphed over many difficulties and died with an estate valued at over $100,000. The Lukens Steel Company lasted long after her death. Lukens was born Rebecca Pennock in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest of nine children in a Quaker family.
