Lupi, Johannes

    0.07 sec.

Lupi, Johannes (Jean Leleu) (c. 1506–1539)

French composer. He was associated with Cambrai Cathedral from 1526, first as a singer then as a choirmaster. He wrote church music and chansons. A different Johannes Lupi was organist at Nivelles in 1502, and was possibly the composer of a lament on the death of Ockeghem (1495). The name is also found in the records of Antwerp Cathedral in 1548. It is often impossible to be certain to which of these composers to assign various works. Lupus Hellinck (c. 1496–1541) is again a distinct composer, as is the slightly younger Didier Lupi of Lyon.
