Luray Caverns

Geologic site in Luray, Page County, northwest Virginia. The caves are situated on the west side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the Shenandoah Valley. They are the largest in the state (26 sq km/10 sq mi), and their several chambers are covered with stalactite and stalagmite formations –some over 15 m/50 ft long – of many colours and shapes. The caves are a popular tourist attraction. They were discovered in 1878.
