Lusitano, Vicente (died after 1553)

Portuguese music theorist and composer. He was known as Vicente de Olivença in Portugal, but was called Lusitano (‘the Portuguese’) in Rome, Italy, where he settled about 1550. In 1551 he had a dispute with Nicola Vicentino, which was settled in his favour, with Ghiselin Danckerts and Bartolomeo Escobedo as judges. He published a treatise on cantus firmus in 1553.
