Lutterworth

Town in Leicestershire, England, 10 km/6 mi northeast of Rugby; population (2001) 8,300. Lutterworth has engineering, aircraft, and textile works. The surrounding area is mainly agricultural. St Mary's church contains the pulpit and various alleged relics of the religious reformer John Wycliffe, who preached here from 1374 until his death in 1384.

In the outcome the Church proved too strong for even Wiclif, and Oxford, against its will, was compelled to abandon him; yet he could be driven no farther than to his parish of Lutterworth, where he died undisturbed in 1384.
