Luynes, Charles d'Albert, duc de (1578–1621)

French courtier and soldier. He instigated the assassination of the marshal d'Ancre (1617), and suppressed a Huguenot rebellion. In 1621 he was made constable of France, but died soon afterwards while leading another army against the Protestants.

He was born in Pont St Esprit, Gard. He was the son of Honore d'Albert (died 1592), the governor of Beaucaire.
