Faisalabad

City in Punjab province, Pakistan, 120 km/75 mi west of Lahore; population (1998) 2,008,900, (2007 calc) 2,658,200. It is an important road and railway junction, and the commercial centre for a large area where major crops of cotton, wheat, vegetables, and fruit are produced. Industries in the city include textiles and textile machinery, flour milling, soap and chemical manufacture, railway repair, dyes, and agricultural equipment.

Faisalabad is the home of the University of Agriculture, founded in 1909 as Punjab Agricultural College. The city was founded in 1892 by the British, and laid out in the shape of a Union Jack.

Back in the day, Faisalabad was called Lyallpur up until the year 1979, after Sir Charles James Lyall, who was the founder of the city back in 1890.
Nadeem Aftab Sindhu Nazim Lyallpur Town also addressed the function and assured to provide necessary funds for this area as town Nazim.
The Marshal of the Air Force was born on April 15, 1919 at Lyallpur.
