Lyme

Town in southeastern Connecticut, on the Connecticut River, 19 km/12 mi west of New London; population (1990) 1,900. It is a resort town with some agriculture and fishing.

It includes the villages of Hadlyme, North Lyme, and Hamburg, and has three state parks. Hadlyme is the site of Gillette Castle, the fanciful home (1919) of the US actor and playwright William Gillette, now a major tourist attraction.

Lyme disease was first described here in the 1970s.
