Lynwood

City in southwestern California, 16 km/10 mi south of central Los Angeles, and just north of Compton; population (1990) 61,900. It is a residential suburb and an industrial centre producing oil industry equipment, machinery, paints, and pottery.

It was founded in 1896 and was originally a dairying community.
