Lyric Theatre

Theatre in London's West End. Designed by English theatre architect C J Phipps (1835–1897) and opened in 1888, it is Shaftesbury Avenue's oldest surviving theatre. It holds 967 people on four levels.

The Lyric Theatre opened with English dramatist B C Stephenson's (1838–1906) comic operetta Dorothy. It has since staged operas, comedies, and dramas, including André Roussin's The Little Hut (1950), Alan Ayckbourn's How the Other Half Loves (1972), and Willy Russell's Blood Brothers (1983). The bar and foyer areas were refurbished in 1933, and the external façade in 1994.
