Lyrische Symphonie

    0.01 sec.

Lyrische Symphonie

Work by Alexander von Zemlinsky in seven movements for soprano, baritone, and orchestra (text by Rabindranath Tagore in a German translation by the composer). It was composed 1922-23 and first performed in Prague, in the present-day Czech Republic, on 4 June 1924, conducted by Zemlinsky (two days later Zemlinsky conducted the first performance of Arnold Schoenberg's Erwartung). The format of the Lyric Symphony is modelled on Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, although the content is Zemlinsky's own.
