Lyttelton, Alfred (1857-1913)

British politician and athlete. He was secretary of state for the colonies 1903-05, when he was much criticized for his conduct of African affairs. He was a famous athlete in his day, playing cricket and football for England. He was also amateur champion of real tennis 1882-95.

He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1895 he became a Liberal-Unionist MP.
