Märzendorfer, Ernst (1921– )

Austrian conductor. He studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and conducted opera in Salzburg from 1940. He worked at Graz Opera 1945–51; the Deutsche Oper, Berlin from 1958; and at the Vienna Staatsoper from 1961 (where he led the premiere of Henze's ballet Tancredi in 1966). With the Mozarteum Orchestra he toured the USA in 1956 and with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra he recorded all the Haydn symphonies (1967–71). He conducted his completion of Bruckner's 9th symphony at Graz in 1969.
