Mödl, Martha (1912–2001)

German soprano. She studied in Nuremberg and made her debut in 1942. She sang at Bayreuth 1951–67, as Kundry, Gutrune, Sieglinde, Isolde, and Brünnhilde; at Hamburg from 1949; and in London 1950–72. She sang in the first performances of Reimann's Melusine (1971), Fortner's Elisabeth Tudor (1972) and Cerha's Baal (1980). Other roles included Leonore, Carmen, and Clytemnestra.
