| The harbour can take barges of up to 2,300 tonnes and is effectively the head of navigation on the Ruhr. There is a fortress with origins dating from 883, but the structure is 12th century. St Peter's church, essentially Romanesque, dates from 1200. There are half-timbered houses in the old town, and the Tersteegenhaus houses the regional museum. |
