Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

US film-production company 1924–1970s. MGM was formed by the amalgamation of the Metro Picture Corporation, the Goldwyn Picture Corporation, and Louis B Mayer Pictures. One of the most powerful Hollywood studios of the 1930s–1950s, it produced such prestige films as David Copperfield (1935) and The Wizard of Oz (1939). Among its stars were Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, and Elizabeth Taylor.
