MMT (Multiple-Mirror Telescope)

Telescope on Mount Hopkins, Arizona. When it began operation in 1979, it consisted of six 1.83-m/72-in mirrors mounted in a hexagon, the light-collecting area of which equals that of a single mirror of 4.5 m/176 in diameter. The six mirrors were replaced in 1996 with a single mirror 6.5 m/21.3 ft wide, and it is now generally know simply as the MMT.
