Motion Picture Association of America

Trade association founded in 1922, which operates the US film rating system that began in 1968. Until 1945 it was known as the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). The rating system replaced its older Motion Picture Production Code, or Hays Code.

According to MPAA, the 'Jack Valenti Humanitarian Award' is given to an "individual working in the motion picture industry whose contributions and commitment to service exemplify compassion, humanitarianism and dedication to community embodied in the award's namesake.
The MPAA said it determined that between January 2006 and January 2008 Logan was responsible for the premature release of more than 100 movies he illegally recorded films in theaters in a five-state area around the US capital.
RealNetworks' RealDVD should be called StealDVD," MPAA general counsel Greg Goeckner said in a release.
