Maag, Peter (1919– )

Swiss conductor. He studied piano and theory with Marek and conducting with Franz von Hoesslins and Ansermet. After a number of lesser posts, he became first conductor of the Düsseldorf Opera, 1952–54, and then music director of the Bonn Opera, specializing in the performance of lesser-known works. He made his US debut in 1959 with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and his house debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, in 1972 with Don Giovanni.
