MacCormac, Richard Cornelius

    0.06 sec.

MacCormac, Richard Cornelius (1938– )

English architect. His work shows a clear geometric basis with a concern for the well-made object reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts tradition.

The residential building (1983) at Worcester College in Oxford, England, epitomizes his approach: the student rooms are intricately related in a complex geometric plan and stepped section. He became president of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1991. His other works include Coffee Hall flat, Milton Keynes (1974); housing in Duffryn, Wales (1974); Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (1986); Southwark Station (2000) on London's Jubilee tube line; and the live news centre at the BBC's Broadcasting House (designed 2002). He was knighted in 2001.
