MacGregor, Joanna (1959- )

English pianist and composer. She has written music for theatre, radio, and television. In 1993 she gave the premiere of Birtwistle's Antiphonies, under Boulez, and has performed other modern repertory by Berio, Xenakis, Ligeti, and Takemitsu.

She studied at Cambridge with Hugh Wood, at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and with Van Cliburn in Texas. She made her London debut in 1985 and has since appeared with all the leading British orchestras. She gave the first performance of Wood's Concerto at the 1991 London Promenade Concerts and returned in 1993 for Messiaen's Turangalîla-Symphonie. She founded the Contemporary Music platform in London 1991-93.
