MacLaine, Shirley (1934– )

US actor. A versatile performer, she has played in musicals, comedy, and dramatic roles. Her films include Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble with Harry (1955), Some Came Running (1958), The Apartment (1960), and Terms of Endearment (1983), for which she won an Academy Award.

MacLaine is the sister of actor Warren Beatty. She trained as a dancer, attracting the attention of film producer Hal Wallis in her role in the musical The Pajama Game in 1954.
