MacVeagh, Lincoln (1890-1972)

US publisher and diplomat. He entered publishing in 1915 and founded the Dial Press in 1923. He was ambassador to Greece (1933-41, 1944-47) and the first US ambassador to Iceland (1941-42), then served as ambassador to South Africa, Portugal, and Spain. MacVeagh was born in Narragansett Pier, Rhode Island.
