MacVeagh, Lincoln (1890–1972)

US publisher and diplomat. He entered publishing in 1915 and founded the Dial Press in 1923. He was ambassador to Greece (1933–41, 1944–47) and the first US ambassador to Iceland (1941–42), then served as ambassador to South Africa, Portugal, and Spain. MacVeagh was born in Narragansett Pier, Rhode Island.
