Machynlleth

Town in Powys, central Wales, situated on the River Dovey, 17 km/10 mi south of Dolgellau; population (2001) 2,150. Agriculture and forestry were formerly the main local economic activities, but tourism has also become an important industry. The Centre for Alternative Technology, an educational charity, attracts large numbers of visitors, and there is also a craft centre and a nature reserve.

Owen Glendower summoned a parliament here in 1402.
