Maclay, William (1765-1825)

US politician. A Republican member of the Pennsylvania house (1807-08), he was the associate judge for the Cumberland District before going to the US House of Representatives (1815-19). Maclay was born in Lurgan Township, Pennsylvania. Educated in country schools, he became a lawyer in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where he also served as county commissioner.
