Macphail, Agnes (1890–1954)

Canadian politician. The first female member of the Canadian parliament, she championed the rights of farmers and worked hard for social and prison reform. Defeated at the polls after 19 years in Ottawa, she ran provincially and was twice elected in Ontario as member of the provincial parliament. She continued to champion the poor and underprivileged until her death.
