Madeleva, Sister Mary (1887–1964)| US poet and educator. A medieval scholar, she won distinction for her literary essays and poetry. She was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin. Joining the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1908, she earned a doctorate in English from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1925. She was president of St Mary's College at Notre Dame, Indiana (1934–61). |
