Madisonville

City and seat of Hopkins County, in western Kentucky, 53 km/33 mi north of Hopkinsville; population (1990) 16,200. Situated in a coalmining area, it is a centre for agricultural trade, an important loose-leaf tobacco market, and a timber shipping point, with some light manufacturing industries.

Madisonville

Town and seat of Monroe County, southeastern Tennessee, 61 km/38 mi southwest of Knoxville; population (1990) 3,000. This agricultural trade centre was the birthplace of politician Estes Kefauver in 1903.
