Maecianus, Lucius Volusius

Maecianus, Lucius Volusius (lived 2nd century AD)

Roman jurist. He held many offices under the emperor Antoninus Pius, and also under Marcus Aurelius, whose law tutor he had been. As governor of Alexandria he took part in the rebellion of Avidius Cassius AD 175 and was murdered by the troops.

Maecianus wrote Distributio, a treatise on numerical divisions, weights, and measures, part of which has survived.
