Mafra

Town in Lisboa district, west-central Portugal, 30 km/19 mi north of Lisbon, on the Atlantic coast. It has a white marble baroque convent-palace, built by John V in 1717–31, in imitation of the Escorial palace outside Madrid, Spain.
