Magadha

Kingdom of ancient northeastern India, roughly corresponding to the middle and southern parts of modern Bihar. It was the scene of many incidents in the life of the Buddha and was the seat of the Mauryan dynasty founded in the 3rd century BC. Its capital Pataliputra was a great cultural and political centre.
