magnoliaAny of a group of trees or shrubs belonging to the magnolia family, native to North America and East Asia, and cultivated as ornamentals. Magnolias vary in height from 60 cm/2 ft to 30 m/150 ft. The large, fragrant single flowers are white, pink, or purple. The southern magnolia (M. grandiflora) of the USA grows up to 24 m/80 ft tall and has white flowers 23 cm/9 in across. (Genus Magnolia, family Magnoliaceae.) Magnolia
