Mago (died 203 BC)

Carthaginian general. He was the youngest son of Hamilcar Barca and brother of Hannibal. Mago took part in Hannibal's campaign in Italy 218–216 BC.

Mago joined his elder brother Hasdrubal in Spain, where he was defeated by Marcus Junius Silanus 207 BC, and again (this time together with Hasdrubal) by Scipio Africanus at Ilipa (near Seville) 206 BC. The Carthaginian government then ordered him to invade Gallia Cisalpina 205 BC; but he was defeated and recalled to Carthage. He died of wounds on the homeward voyage.
