Mahoning County

Administrative district of northeastern Ohio area 1,080 sq km/417 sq mi, population (1990) 264,800. Mahoning County is bounded by Pennsylvania to the east and has its seat at Youngstown, a major industrial centre surrounded by suburbs.

Mahoning County is crossed by the Little Beaver and Mahoning rivers, and includes Lake Milton and part of Berlin Lake The county is a centre of dairy, fruit, grain, livestock, and poultry farming; other industries include coalmining and limestone quarrying.
