Any of a group of ferns, especially A. capillus-veneris, with delicately hanging hairlike fronds ending in small kidney-shaped spore-bearing lobes. It is widely distributed in the Americas, and is sometimes found in the British Isles. (Genus Adiantum, family Polypodiaceae.)
