main sequence

In astronomy, part of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram that contains most of the stars, including the Sun. It runs diagonally from the top left of the diagram (hottest and brightest) to the bottom right(coolest and dimmest). The most massive (and hence the fastest-burning) stars are at the top left, with the least massive (slowest-burning) stars at the bottom right.

This would make Beta Pictoris far too young to qualify as a main-sequence star, burning hydrogen at its core.
