Makamba

Town in southern Burundi, 110 km/70 mi south of Bujumbura, and major administrative town in Makamba Province; population (2001 est) 12,000. Makamba is located in an agricultural area producing coffee and cotton, although much farming activity was disrupted by civil war between Hutu and Tutsi groups during the mid-1990s.
