Malgoire, Jean-Claude

Malgoire, Jean-Claude (1940– )

French conductor, oboist, and musicologist. He is best known for his performances and recordings of operas by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Lully, and Rameau.

He studied at the Paris Conservatory and in 1966 founded the ensemble La Grande Ecurie et La Chambre du Roy, for performances of baroque music with an empirical approach towards instrumentation and performing practice. He has made many tours in Europe and the USA with this ensemble and Florilegium Musicum de Paris (which specializes in medieval and Renaissance music). In 1986 he conducted a revival of Campra's Tancrède, at Aix-en-Provence. Season 1992 with Lully's Alceste in Paris and Montezuma, his Vivaldi pastiche, at Monte Carlo.
