Malipiero, Riccardo (1914- )

Italian composer, nephew of Francesco Malipiero. He studied at Milan and Turin and with his uncle in Venice. His early compositions are neoclassical in spirit; he turned to serialism in 1945.

Minnie la Candida (1942), La Donna è mobile (1957) and Battano alla Porta (1962).

Orchestral

three piano concertos (1937-61), two cello concertos (1938, 1957); three symphonies (1949-59), Cadencias for orchestra (1964), Mirages for orchestra (1966); Ombre for orchestra (1986).

Chamber

three string quartets (1941, 1954, 1960), piano quintet (1957), Cassazione for string sextet (1967).

Other

Requiem (1975); piano music.
