Malkovich, John Gavin (1953– )

US actor. He is known for his distinctive voice and deadpan portrayals of educated, quick-witted, and contemptuous villains. His films include Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Of Mice and Men (1992), The Portrait of a Lady (1996), The Shadow of the Vampire (2000), and Knockaround Guys (2001).

Malkovich appeared as himself in Spike Jonze's critically acclaimed Being John Malkovich (1999). He also produced The Accidental Tourist (1988), based on the novel by Anne Tyler. Other acting credits include The Killing Fields (1984), Places in the Heart (1984), Empire of the Sun (1987), In the Line of Fire (1993), Con Air (1997), Rounders (1998), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), Johnny English (2003), and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005). He made his directorial debut with the film The Dancer Upstairs (2002).
