Town in North Yorkshire, England, on the River Derwent, 27 km/17 mi northeast of York; population (2001) 5,000. Limestone is quarried nearby. Agricultural implements are manufactured, and there is a brewery. Orchard Fields is the site of a Roman fortress.

Burnt down in the 12th century in the reign of King Stephen, the town was rebuilt as New Malton. The remains of the 12th-century priory at Old Malton include part of the priory church of St Mary's, the only remaining church of the Gilbertine Order in England in which services are still held.
