Minister Mark Drane, bridesmaid Karen Dunbar and best man Ray Will made sure their big day went with a swing.
At the center of this project are both well-known and recently discovered photographs by the American artist Man Ray (1890-1976), whose body of images translating the vogue for African art into a Modernist photographic aesthetic made a significant impact on shaping perceptions of such objects at a critical moment in their reception.
Each chapter focuses on a theme--symbols and allegories, mythological and religious subjects, musical performance, and individual instruments--and shows several color images of works relating to that theme by artists such as Van Dyck, Bosch, Klimt, Chagall, Kandinsky, Manet, and Man Ray, with descriptions providing historical and musical context, and captions pointing to important aspects in each work.
