Mancini, Francesco (1672–1737)

Italian composer. A pupil of Provenzale and Ursino at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples, he entered the service of the court and rose to become maestro di cappella in 1707 and again from 1725 until his death. He was director of the Conservatorio S. Maria di Loreto from 1720.

operas L'Idaspe fedele (original title Gli amanti generosi, 1705), Trajano (1723) and 19 others; six oratorios; cantatas; violin sonatas; keyboard music.
